A capacitive keyboard is a high-end type of keyboard that registers a keypress using changes in electrical capacitance rather than physical, mechanical contact. Unlike standard keyboards where two conductive pieces must physically smash together to type a letter, capacitive switches detect how close the key is to the circuit board.
